Table Tennis: Stebbing and Gott shine for super Raptors

In the Lancaster and Morecambe Table Tennis League Premier Division, Morecambe A hosted Trimpell Raptors with Raptors winning 29-6.

Paul Stebbing and Dave Gott were the top scorers of the night for Trimpell with Dave Smith claiming eight points.

Match of the match was Nathan Beamer, who beat Dave Smith with Beamer pushing Smith aside 11-5 in the fifth, putting a dent in his opponent’s winning credentials.

Trimpell City hosted Trimpell Bulldogs in a derby game, with Bulldogs again proving too strong, winning 30 points to six with Phil Goymer, Ray Carr and Alan Holt all taking the maximum nine points.

City’s player of the evening was Tom Mellors, taking four points with Danny Welbourne easing his way back into the season with an important point.

The game of the week was between top of the table Garstang Annihilators and St Luke’s B.

St Luke’s star man was Graeme Wheelhouse with eight points, closely followed by Martin Wakelin with seven, then Tony March with five.

In return, Garstang’s Tom Clark and Mike Armishaw scored eight points each, with the crucial match again being the doubles with the Garstang duo of Francesca Currie and Mike Armishaw winning 3 -0 in the final match of the evening, and finishing all square at 20 points each.

Championship title favourites Trimpell Dynamos collected full points away to Morecambe C, who had three junior debutants in their team.

Davide Viana, Graham White and Derek Metcalfe were too strong on the night, beating the home team trio of Lexie Ball, Ethan Walling and Dylan Waring 30-0.

The junior training sessions on offer at Morecambe Community High School will continue during this new season.
