Swimming: Otters' stars of the future take on best in the county

Two weekends of competition at the Lancashire County Championships in Manchester ushered in a new era for the Carnforth Otters.

Mckenzie Ronson Horrocks, 10, claimed five top-10 finishes and a bronze medal while George Wilby, Owain Heathcote-Jones and Hannah McMillan all swam well in the 50m freestyle.

Ace Bower, 11, finished seventh in the 50m breaststroke while George Cookson, 12, claimed five top-10s.

Rhys Ashton finished 11th in the 50m backstroke while Alice Sands had five top-20s.

Kiera Richmond, 14, had good swims in both of her breaststroke events and Matthew Crabtree finished 16th in the 100m freestyle.

Thomas Dugdale finished fifth in the 100m fly while Aimee Banks claimed bronze in the 100m backstroke with Alex Livingstone fourth and Ella Mounsey sixth.

Hannah Edwards finished seventh in the 50m breaststroke with Sadie Spencer picking up three top 20s.

Lydia-Louise Shenton and Ruby Frankland both had good swims in the 400m freestyle. Ben Winterburn picked up three top 20s, Richard Mead swam well in his three events and Chris Stainton impressed in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Holly Salisbury, 16, won bronze in the 50m freestyle and finished fifth in the 100m.

Josh Banks, 19th in the 50m freestyle, Jess Shatford, fifth in the 50m breaststroke and ninth in the 100m, and Josh Thompson, in action in the sprints, all impressed.
