The team’s leading players, Jeremy Stopford at No 1 and Adam Holtham No 2 continued the rich vein of form they have enjoyed all year, winning 3-1 and 3-0 respectively to maintain their unbeaten records.

They were ably backed up against Blackpool South Shore 4 by Andy Haines who won 3-0 at three, Shaun Gorry - a 3-1 winner - at four, and Stuart Featon, a 3-0 victor at five.

The climax to the season is at Powderhouse Lane on Thursday, April 2, when Vale 1 take on their title rivals, Grasshoppers 6.

Vale hold a 17-point lead over Hoppers but the Preston side have a game in hand.

It will be an intriguing contest as Hoppers’ only defeat so far this season was at home against the Vale and if they lose again the title looks almost certain to be Vale’s.
