Heysham Atoms’ Under 13s had the privilege of playing at a Super League stadium on Friday night.

The youngsters ran out 34-22 winners against South Trafford Raiders at the Salford City Reds Stadium in a match played on the Red Devils’ training pitch prior to the Salford against Leeds Rhino’s Super League clash.

Kyle Barton opened the scoring under the posts with Henry Connolly converting.

Heysham’s second try came from captain Callum Brodie, showing great strength from a Connor McGuinness break, before Trafford’s stand off sliced through a weak defence to score.

Adam Woodend then received the ball 25 metres out and charged his way over the try line for his first of the season.

McGuinness barged his way over from 15 yards but South Trafford scored another try before half time, making the score 18-10.

Ewan Hutchinson was the next to score before Brodie got his second try of the game finishing off a McGuinness break.

Hutchinson scored his second try before man of the match McGuinness scored again.

Trafford showed great determination by scoring the last two tries of the game against a tired Atoms defence but they ran out worthy winners.
