THE economic climate has been blamed after the organisers of a Lancaster amateur boxing club decided to hang up their gloves.
Skerton Amateur Boxing Club says its recent show at The Carleton in Morecambe will be its last.
A spokesman for the club, which trains numerous talented young boxers, said: “It’s too much hard work for one coach and there’s not enough support from the local community buying tickets for shows, or parents of boxers, with a few notable exceptions.
“Maybe the club and coach will be more appreciated now it’s gone.
“Thanks to all the boxers, parents, helpers and sponsors who did help the club and good luck in the future.”
Skerton ABC has been going for more than six years and during that time produced more than 40 champions.
