Salt Ayre success on big day in Barrow

Salt Ayre Cog set riders were part of a big day of racing in Barrow.

Sam Monkhouse, George Wharton, Elliot Reed, Jacob Rae and Amy Monkhouse took part in the youth race that supported the Pearl Tour Series event through the town centre on Thursday, May 15.

Crowds lined the streets of the 1.1km circuit on a successful day for the youngsters with three securing podium finishes.

Amy Monkhouse finished first in the under 14 girls, George Wharton second in the under 16s with Sam Monkhouse third in the same race.

Bank holiday Monday, May 26, will see one of the country’s biggest youth cycling events come to the Salt Ayre track.

The most talented young riders in the UK and Europe will descend on the North West for three days of top-quality racing.

Saturday sees the start of the North West Youth Tour at the UCLan arena in Preston followed by a second day of racing on the Promenade at Blackpool.

The finale of the whole event takes place at Salt Ayre on Monday where the races start at 9am and entrance is free.
