Salt Ayre Cog Set youngsters in action across the north of England

Jonny Wong has been in fine form taking on senior riders, securing a top-10 finish in the 44-mile Bowland Road Race and finishing an excellent sixth in the 56-mile Westmorland Tankard Road Race.

Team mates Conor Jardine and Toby Carway also rode well in the Westmorland race.

Many of the club’s younger riders have been performing strongly too.

Fourteen Cog Setters rode in the North West Youth Circuit Championships at Victoria Park, Southport, with stellar performances coming from George Wharton who rode fantastically to finish second in the under 16s boys race and Tilly Percy, second in the under 12 girls race.

A strong Cog Set team also travelled to Hetton for the first round of the prestigious National Youth Series.

Up against the nation’s best young riders there were some strong performances with Esther Wong, in the under 10 girls, Percy, in the under 12 girls, and Amy Monkhouse, in the under 14 girls, all placing in the top 10.

Back on home turf, Cog Set hosted the opening round of the North West Youth League with club riders local riders taking advantage of their familiarity with Salt Ayre’s track to deliver a string of fine results.

The district will play host to a national race over the next bank holiday weekend from May 23 to 25.

The North West Youth Tour will take in Williamson Park on day one and Salt Ayre on day three.

Anyone wishing to try out the sport is invited along to the Salt Ayre track with youth coaching every Saturday morning at 10am and youth racing every Wednesday evening at 6pm.
