Try from Fiery Forrest not enough to Bridge gap

Heysham Atoms '˜A' team got their first outing of the summer season away in Wigan against a strong Ince Rose Bridge outfit but were beaten 33-18.

Full Back Jamie Cottle got the Atoms’ first try as he spun out of a tackle to the right of the uprights.

Rose Bridge grew in confidence and scored four tries in the 20 minute period before the break giving the Wigan side a 20-6 lead.

The Atoms tried to play with a lot more width in the second half and winger Kyel Dempsey showed his finishing ability getting on the end of a smart handling move, scoring in the left corner.

Rose Bridge didn’t alter their tactics and only a try saving tackle on the line from veteran winger Decker Sharp prevented a certain six pointer.

However, this only prolonged the agony as Rose Bridge added two more scores to their total soon after.

Michael Forrest was then upended in a dangerous tackle and with tempretures still rising it was Forrest who picked himself off the floor to score the Atoms’ third try, showing great strength and balance to get through a packed defensive line.

Billy Livingstone converted but Rose Bridge finished off the scoring right on the final whistle with a drop goal.

nThe Atoms’ newest team the under 9s had a big away trip to Chester Gladiators on Sunday. All 15 players got plenty of minutes as the two teams played four quarters of 15 minutes each to make the long trip worthwhile.

The Atoms claiemd four tries which were scored by Connor Hall, Kian Davies and two tries for the lively Sam Wheeler who had his 
best game in the Atoms colours.

Man of the Match for the Atoms was Hayden Davis whose constant, direct running was a threat to the Chester side all afternoon.

Hayden was closely followed by Ciaran Fell and Connor Hall who too took the game to the Gladiators with ball in hand, in another all round good team performance
