City of Lancaster Triathlon have their first under 10 national medal winner in Rhys Ashton following a superb run and swim at the National Schools Biathlon Final at the London Aquatics Centre.
Taking bronze, nine-year-old Rhys clocked up the fastest 800m run time in his age group at 2:35.40 and a highly respectable 37:58 for his 50m swim.
These results placed him third overall in a field of 108 athletes who qualified.
Rhys now wants to follow in the footsteps of fellow COLT GB athlete Beau Smith and COLT’S Biathle World Champion Sarah Hodgson.
COLT also achieved other impressive results at the event, including 12-year-old Ruby Frankland who came ninth, Emma Whitaker in 13th, and Ffion Ashton 48th in the 109-strong under 13 girls field.
Annis Atkinson, 13, also competed, finishing the 100m swim in 1:10.50.
In the boys under 13 competition, Ben Winterburn came in 32nd out of a field of 107 athletes with both strong 100m swim and 1,500m run times.
