However, he has now attracted major sponsorship, which will, along with those who’ve supported him over the years, enable Phil and his regular co-driver Mal Capstick to mount a concerted campaign in the Roger Albert Clark Championship – now the country’s top special stage series.

Following a two-year lay-off due to other commitments and a winter of thorough preparation to his familiar red Escort Mk2, Phil Burton is back rallying big style – having attracted three new, high-profile sponsors. The sponsors are ‘1 Media’ – a well-respected and successful graphics company – based in Kirkby Lonsdale, and Accident Advice Solutions – a nationwide organisation and Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery to assist the team through the UK’s premier special stage rally championship Phil and Mal will be a force to be reckoned with in the ‘Open’ category having made a huge investment in a new, state of the art 2.4 litre Millington Diamond series engine.

The first event in the series is the Red Kite Rally (February 1).
