With the coronavirus pandemic having thrown the world into disarray, clubs have been forced to re-evaluate their plans given the unlikelihood of any cricket until July at the earliest.

Bisht had repaid Garstang’s decision to make him their first professional last year, the Indian hitting 1,600 runs in all competitions at an average of 53.33.

“We jointly decided to cancel the contract for this year,” Walling said.

“First of all, he can’t get out of India because they are in lockdown.

“Most of the season is going to be disrupted; there might be a specific tournament at the end of the summer but it’s not going to be a reflection of a full season.

“We don’t see the point in him coming over and, from a financial point of view, there’s a lot of missed income with the Beer Festival having to be moved.

“We’ve spoken to him and come to an agreement but we’ve also said that, if we’re in a position, we’d like to re-sign him next year.”
