“I was really pleased with the win”: Morecambe boss reflects on their weekend win

Morecambe made it nine points from their last three league games on Saturday.

Morecambe boss Adam Lakeland described his players’ 4-0 victory over Buxton on Saturday as a good afternoon’s work, writes DEREK QUINN.

The Shrimps sealed a third consecutive league win for the first time since February 2024 thanks to four second-half goals from Matty Daly (2), Elliot Newby and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.

It was a win which lifted Morecambe to 10th position in the early National League North table, having been bottom little more than a week earlier.

Speaking afterwards, Lakeland said: “I was really pleased with the win because Buxton are a decent side.

“They have some very dangerous individuals, especially at the top end of the pitch, and you have to be very disciplined against them.

“In the first half we didn’t play with enough tempo or energy for sustained periods and we were a little bit loose on a couple of occasions that led to them having a couple of good chances.

“We got very lucky early in the game when Myles (Boney, Morecambe keeper) made a good save.

“At half-time we told the lads to move through the gears a bit quicker and be more positive and adventurous in our play, and I thought we were tremendous.

“We were organised defensively and l was delighted with the clean sheet and we looked more and more threatening as the half went on.

“I think we are looking more threatening on transition each game and to get four goals with three different scorers is a really good afternoon’s work for us.”
