Women’s water polo side well beaten by Australia

GREAT Britain’s women’s water polo team, featuring two Lancaster Water Polo Club players, fell to their second defeat at the London 2012 Olympics on Wednesday night.

Carnforth’s Alex Rutlidge and Morecambe’s Beckie Kershaw were part of the British side that lost 16-3 to a strong Australia side at the Water Polo Arena.

Szilveszter Fekete’s side are expected to be more competitive in their third and final Group B game against Italy on Friday.

All eight teams in the women’s competition progress through to the quarter-finals.

The men’s side, featuring Lancaster players Ciaran James, Glen Robinson and Alex Parsonage, play their third preliminary game against the USA on Thursday night at 6.20pm.
