On a day when virtually no other games even started, Shireshead and Carnforth got three quarters of the way through a game before being thwarted by the weather.

Shireshead were invited to bat first and posted an imposing 191 for 8 in this Westmorland Cricket League Division One clash.

Fifteen-year-old Joe Cunliffe (46) again impressed as he held together the first part of the innings, whilst Nick Rafferty (56) intelligently accelerated through the middle overs.

Cameos from Simon Gould, Dave Jack and James Rafferty, who struck three enterprising sixes, ensured a healthy target was posted.

Darren Nelson and Gareth Denwood were the pick of the bowlers for Carnforth.

Wickets fell regularly in the Carnforth reply until the weather intervened with the score at 71 for 4.

Shireshead’s trip to Ambleside on Sunday in the Hackney Leigh Trophy also fell foul of the weather.

The game was abandoned with Shireshead on 25 for 1 after bowling Ambleside out for 98.
