Shireshead and Forton will do battle with Milnthorpe in the final of the Westmorland Cricket League’s premier cup competition this Sunday.

The two teams will clash in the Hackney & Leigh Cup decider at Bare Cricket Club on August 17 in a 1pm start.

Not only are Shireshead storming clear at the top of Division One, but they are also the defending championships, so go into the game confident of victory.

Skipper Paul Yates said: “We are looking forward to the final with great excitement.

“With so little of the season left and the club still challenging for two league titles plus two cup finals it’s good times at Shireshead.

“As defending champions we are looking forward to reclaiming the premier league cup.”

As for Milnthorpe, they will be looking to upset the odds and end their silverware drought.

Captain Lee Illingworth said: “We’re all really looking forward to the final as it has been too long since Milnthorpe first team won any silverware, and we aim to put that right on Sunday.

“It should be a great spectacle as there are several potential match winners on each side.

“Obviously Shireshead are having a tremendous season and are currently top of the league for a reason, but I’m sure they won’t be taking anything for granted and we are all up for the challenge.”
