Reg Cupit was the star as Heysham shocked Warton in the Westmorland Cricket League Division One on Saturday.

The former Morecambe bowler took 7-32 as Gareth Finney’s side were bowled out for just 79.

Having taken three wickets, Andrew Ideson then hit 29 not out as Heysham knocked off the runs for the loss of just five wickets.

After winning the toss and batting first it was a day where nothing went right for the hosts in their worst display of the season.

Cupit made the most of a wicket that wasn’t as good as it looked with only Ryan Nelson (12) and his father Ricky Nelson (24) standing up to the testing conditions.

In reply, Warton got early wickets with Lewis Plackett departing for a duck before Andy Powers went cheaply, both to Graeme Crowther.

Ideson and James Whincup (23) survived however with Andy Hill’s 22 also helping them over the line.

Elsewhere 103 not out from Liam Parkinson and 58 not out from Peter Wilson helped Shireshead to an 81-run win over Silverdale.

The hosts posted 219-1 before bowling Silverdale for 138.

Ambleside were eight-wicket winners over Westgate after bowling out their visitors for 88 while Bolton-le-Sands also suffered an eight wicket loss at the hands of Sedgwick after being bowled out for just 83.

Burneside also picked up 15 points at home to Arnside with Milnthorpe winning at Windermere.
