Torrisholme continued their good start to the season with a win over Withnell Fold.
A composed 44 not out from Chris Parry helped Matt Jackson’s side post 107 before the combination of Graham Lee (5-23), Jeff Stobbart (3-28) and Jackson (2-33)did the job with the ball.
Jackson won the toss and decided to bat first, and with the score at 45-1 it looked a good decision with Andy Butler (4) the only wicket to fall.
Adam Bee (19) was looking settled until he left a straight one to Withnell Fold’s man of the match Alan Grogan (6-26).
This sparked a collapse as Dan Wood (4), James Ferguson (4) and Jeff Stobbart (0) all came and went, the latter was unfortunate as he was given out caught behind off the bowling of Graham Thompson (2-22) when he actually hit the ground.
Then 74-5 became 81-7 as Joe Gibbins (2) and Ben Pye (4) departed.
John Gates (2) and Jackson (2) didn’t help and when Lee (0) was caught at mid-off Torrisholme’s innings curtailed to 107 all out, Parry unbeaten on 44 and with 13 overs left to bat.
Jackson opened the Torrisholme bowling with Lee on at the other end.
The latter accounted for G Green (1), Oliver Lomax (5) and N Fowler (2) via the combination of ‘bowled Lee, caught Parry’.
At 28-3 Jackson introduced Stobbart (3-28) into the attack and with exceptional flight he bowled Withnell Fold’s skipper Josh Cunliffe around his legs for a duck.
A brisk counter attack from Rutter (17) was short lived as Stobbart trapped him in front, with Lee claiming Pillay (1) and Pratt (0) by the same method.
Stobbart picked up another wicket, Lomax (0) caught well by Gates, before Jackson replaced Lee and was immediately rewarded clean bowling Thompson (1).
Grogan (43)helped take his team to 85-9 but when he gave Sharples (0) one ball to face of Jackson’s 11th over the skipper cleaned him up to seal the win.
Torrisholme also beat Wrea Green in the Meyler Cup on Sunday.
Torrisholme’s opening pair of Andy Butler (60) and Adam Bee (3) looked comfortable for the first five overs as Mangmeni (1-33) and Allen (1-43) offered little challenge with the ball.
However, Mangmeni cleaned up Bee and brought Chris Parry (21) to the crease. Parry scored quickly only to be expertly caught in the deep by Mangmeni off Penrose (2-50) .
Daniel Woods (77) and Butler pushed the score to 152-2 but Butler holed out to long off and Daniel Woods (77) tried one pull too many. Ferguson (0) also fell.
Glenn Russell (38) was then joined by Stobbart (10 not out) and took the score to 234-5.
Stobbart (2-36) and Woods (2-32) did the damage wtih the ball for Torrisholme, Costin caught well at slip by Bee and Mangmeni (26) caught behind by Pye.
Woods cleaned up Allum (2) and Parry caught Prenrose (1) off Stobbart as 133-4 dribbled to 159-4 from the 40 overs.
