Dave Chisnall’s hopes of reaching the Betway Premier League Darts play-offs ended with two defeats in Birmingham on Thursday night.
The Morecambe ace lost 7-5 to Robert Thornton in the night’s opening match at The NIA before closing the evening with a 7-2 defeat to Phil Taylor.
With two league nights to go, Chisnall now sits seventh in the table and can’t reach the top four and the play-offs at London’s O2 Arena on May 22.
Elsewhere in Birmingham, Taylor’s victory over the resort ace and a draw with Raymond van Barneveld moved the Stoke great up to third in the table.
Peter Wright also remains in the top four following his draw with Adrian Lewis, who like Chisnall can now not make the play-offs.
Gary Anderson, meanwhile, joined Wright on 16 league points with a fine display as he defeated league leader Michael van Gerwen 7-4, as the reigning champion suffered only his third defeat of the season.
The Premier League moves onto Newcastle next Thursday when Chisnall takes on Anderson.
