The prestigious Royal Grammar School senior cricket festival takes place next week – and it is Lancaster’s turn to host the event this year.
The hosts are hoping to win the event for the first time since 2014 when they take on last year’s winners Worcester and other fellow Royal Grammar Schools Guildford, Colchester, High Wycombe and Newcastle.
Run on a round-robin format, the tournament is held across the week, with the team at the top of the table collecting the trophy.
“There will be three 100 overs matches played every day through the week,” said the school’s cricket master Ian Ledward.
“One game is played at LRGS each day and two others are played at the grounds of clubs such as Netherfield, Garstang, Torrisholme, Lancaster and Morecambe.”
The festival is a prestigious school sporting event sponsored by UCLan, Gray Nicholls, Gullivers Travel and local company Freedom Marshmallows.
