Bolton-le-Sands’ Commonwealth Games rider Jack Pullar won the 20th and final round of the Salt Ayre Series.
The Starley Primal ace was joined by league leader Dillon Byrne of Champion System and Lancaster’s Velosure Giordana rider James Gullen in a three-man break after a few tentative early attacks last Wednesday night, August 27.
It looked like the pattern of the race was settled but the bunch had > other plans and with several riders pulling strongly the gap was gradually reduced.
When the three breakaway riders started attacking each other the move looked doomed so Pullar, winner of the Lancaster City Centre Criterium took off alone and held off the rest of the field chasing him down for the last three laps to finish alone.
Byrne took the sprint from team-mate Sam Jackson as only 13 finished from 21 starters such had been the pace on an excellent evening of racing that carried on after dusk under the new circuit lighting.
The result meant Byrne was the winner of the season long league, with Gullen in second and his team mate, Carnforth’s Matt Cronshaw, in third.
On Wednesday night, the earlier category 3,4 and women’s race was won by Salt Ayre Cog Set rider Adam Hall with both the female competitors, Eve Dixon and Jess Atkinson, both Team 22, finishing in the top 10.
