THE second fixture of the Bank Holiday weekend brought success for Shireshead as they travelled to Heysham on May Day.
After electing to bat, Heysham were soon in trouble as Whincup was removed for a duck by the dangerous Uzair Shah and, but for some profligate fielding, could have been reduced to 6 for 3 as Jennings (2 for 28 from 14 overs) extracted bounce and movement from the pitch.
L Calverly (64) capitalised on the lives he was given and held the innings together in the face of excellent bowling from T Jacques (4-11) and Jack (2-49).
Shireshead began their reply cautiously and lost Twiname and Jacques early, but a stand of 49 between Yates (37) and Sutcliffe (18) took the score to 70-2 and seemed to have won the game until Parker (2-35) intervened to create a wobble in the Shireshead middle order.
Oliver (28) quickly took command however, and aided by a mature innings from Parkinson (23no) ensured the target was reached in the 30th over with some panache.
