Lancaster have signed New Zealander Michael Barry as their professional for the 2014 season.

The batting all-rounder replaces Jannisar Khan at Lune Road and will hope to help Ben Simm’s side build on a successful Northerm Premier League campaign in 2013.

The 22-year-old is part of the Auckland Aces’ wider training squad and is hoping to cement his spot in their first 11 over the coming seasons having played three first-class matches.

He represented Auckland through the age-groups before impressing on his first-class debut, scoring 49 and 77 against Wellington in February 2013.

Lune Road skipper Simm said: “He’s a consistent run scorer which is something we’ve been looking for and his age means he will fit in well and socialise.

“He may be young but he’s captained sides back home so clearly has a good cricketing head on his shoulders.

“We had originally re-signed Jani (Khan) but visa issues mean he can’t come back and we’re pleased to get Michael in.”

Lancaster kick off their season at home to Darwen on April 19.
