LANCASTER became ASA Youth Men’s champions recently with a convincing victory over Cheltenahm at the Aquatic Centre in Manchester.
Lancaster started quickly and were a goal up inside the first minute, although Cheltenham responded immediately.
Lancaster soon gained the upper hand as Noel Howson, Scott Sharpe and Sam Routledge scored from quick counter attacks.
At this early stage Cheltenham were overawed and unable to respond.
Further goals from captain Ben Walker and Noel Howson gave Lancaster an early advantage, but Cheltenham managed two quick goals to stop the Lancaster stampede.
Cheltenham scored again to reduce the deficit, but in the last minute of the quarter Noel Howson scored to put Lancaster into a 6-3 lead.
The second quarter started with sloppy Lancaster marking, Cheltenham took early advantage and scored.
Sam Routledge restored Lancaster’s three goal lead with a fierce left hand shot but Cheltenham came straight back and scored.
Noel Howson scored to restore Lancaster’s three goal lead but Cheltenham came back and waere awarded a penalty as Lancaster still seemed unable to master their defensive duties.
Cheltenham then reduced Lancaster’s lead to one goal, but in the last minute of the quarter Noel Howson gave Lancaster some breathing space with a fine centre forward’s goal to give his side a 9-7 half-time lead.
