Lancaster slipped to their second defeat in a row with a 2-1 reverse at Sheffield Hallam 1s in the North Hockey Premier Division on Saturday.
The visitors took the lead through the free-scoring Nina Klinge who wrong-footed the home ‘keeper after good work from Julie Walker.
The well-drilled student team fought back however, Lancaster stopper Leighan Bleasdale pulling off a top-class save with her left-hand to keep out a lifted shot just minutes before half-time.
After the break, a good move down the right saw Sheffield equalise as the hosts took control.
Overlapping yellow cards for Grace Robertson and Cath Foy made it a challenging finale for Lancaster and the hosts went in front when a debated penalty corner was converted 10 minutes from time.
Despite some good pressure, Lancaster couldn’t find an equaliser and they will look to hit back when Chester visit the city this Saturday.
Elsewhere, top of the table Lancaster 2s were 6-3 winners over Blackpool with Beth Hay scoring twice and Aveline Cruickshank, Louisa Bale, Claire Lilley and Kirsty Fairhurst also getting on the scoresheet.
The third team drew 0-0 at Longridge Ladies 2s with the fourths slipped to a 3-1 home defeat against Leyland and Chorley 1s.
Jo Higgs equalised early on to raise Lancaster’s hopes of an impressive result but the table toppers proved to strong.
Lancaster 5s won 2-1 at local rivals Lancaster and Morecambe 3s with Lilly Armer and Mille Whitty getting the goals.
