Lancaster Hockey Club’s second team kicked off 2015 with defeat at home to Northern Ladies 1s.

The hosts, bottom of the North Hockey Women’s League Division 2 North West, went down 3-0 on Saturday.

Early on the defence of Chloe Shatford, Shannon Davey and Catherine Elley kept things tight with Sian Moreland having little to do in goal.

Northern scored against the run of play however to take a one-goal lead into the break.

Despite the best efforts of Katie Benter and Helen Gates in the middle of the park, the supply line to Elle Dorrington, Ailsa Bunch, Kate Aryton and Emily Williams didn’t bring any goals with the visitors adding two more of their own to confirm the 3-0 victory.

The following day the ladies lost 5-1 at Preston Ladies 1s meaning they are still looking for their first win of the season 14 games in.

Elsewhere the first team, also bottom of their division, lost 2-0 at Neston South Wirral Ladies 1s in the North Hockey Women’s League Premier Division.

There were better fortunes for Lancaster 3s as they picked up a big 4-0 win in their key relegation clash with Clitheroe & Blackburn Northern Ladies 3s.

The sides, eighth and ninth in the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association Division 1 respectively, both needed the points but it was the Lancaster side who got the deserved win thanks to goals from Kane, Dodd, Burrows and Case.
