Lancaster won for the first time in five games in the North Hockey Women’s League Premier Division with a 3-2 triumph at Timperley on Saturday.

Jayde Christeansen had gone close with one early short corner before captain Grace Robertson converted another to open the scoring for the visitors.

A defensive slip allowed the hosts to level after a two-on-one situation with the goalkeeper but Lancaster were soon back in front with Ali Standeven sweeping home a Robertson cross.

Two yellow cards reduced Lancaster to nine players in the second half and halted their progress and the inevitable equaliser came.

Timperley were lifted by the leveller with Lancaster goalkeeper Leighan Bleasdale called into action but the visitors stood firm and Robertson got her side back in front after good work from Julie Walker.

Lancaster were shown another yellow card as the home side were awarded a late penalty flick but Bleasdale produced an excellent save to secure the three points in dramatic fashion.

The club’s second team secured promotion and the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association Premier Division title with a 3-0 victory over Lytham 2s.

Claire Lilley scored a hat-trick to seal the victory needed to end their season on a real high.

The third team lost 2-1 at home to Lancaster Nomads while the already relegated fourths ended their season with 3-1 defeat to Windermere 1s.

Mel Woods’ penalty stroke was the only bright spark for the fourth team.

The fifths lost 4-0 at Lytham Ladies 3s in the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association Division Three.

On Sunday, Lancaster’s Development Team drew 1-1 with Carlisle, Emily Bamber-Dowthwaite getting the goal.
