Both Lancaster Nomads’ teams started their seasons away from home in Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey Association at the weekend.

The first team travelled to Longridge and drew 3-3 in Division One.

The hosts went in front but Nomads quickly equalised from Rachel Earnshaw’s penalty corner.

The Lancaster side came close to taking the lead but Amy Leck’s deflection was saved by an in-form Longridge keeper.

After half-time it was Longridge who went back in front but the Nomads were soon back level from a Hazel Irwin penalty corner.

Against the run of play the home side scored a third but Nomads remained calm with man of the match Irwin scoring a second to ensure a share of the spoils.

The second team went down 8-3 at Southport Ladies in Division Three.

The visitors were 5-0 down at the break but Sarah Hampson got them up and running before good work from Megan Barker and Janet Woodhouse allowed her to score a second.

Karen Saunders got the third goal from a pin-point Chloe Fisher to make things interesting at 5-3 but three quick breakaway goals sealed the win for Southport.
