Hayley Mills was the hero as Lancaster’s fourth team reached the Lishman Plate final on penalties with victory over Clitheroe Ladies 3s.

With the game locked at 2-2 at the end of normal time the ‘keeper saved four of the East Lancashire side’s five efforts having already saved one penalty in normal time as the city side progressed 2-1.

Lancaster started strongly with a terrific goal from Harriet Price inside the first 10 minutes.

The visitors doubled their lead shortly after. Emma Wood picked up the ball in the D at the far post and put it through the ‘keeper’s legs and into the back of the net.

Two goals to the good Lancaster eased off and Clitheroe pulled a goal back from a well-worked penalty corner.

The hosts were then awarded a penalty stroke when the ball hit a Lancaster defender’s foot but Mills made a fantastic save to keep her side in front.

Clitheroe kept up the pressure in the second half and despite some resolute Lancaster defending the home side were level via a deflection.

The game then went to penalties with player of the match Mills the star of the show.

Captain Mel Woods and Eve Dodd were on target for Lancaster as they reached the final where they will play Springfields Ladies 4s at Stanley Park, Blackpool on April 5.

Elsewhere, Lancaster 1s beat Whitley Bay and Tynemouth 3-0 in the North Hockey Women’s League Premier Division while the second team were knocked out of the Caley Trophy at the semi-final stage with a 2-1 defeat at Preston Ladies 2s.
