Lancaster cemented second place in the North Premier Division going into the Christmas break with a 4-3 victory at Springfields on Saturday.

The visitors put the pressure on right from the start of this local derby and took the lead inside five minutes, Ali Standeven breaking the deadlock much to the delight of the team and travelling fans.

The Preston side hit back soon after though and two quick goals after some slack Lancaster possession saw them take the lead.

In a back and forth game Lancaster were soon level from a short corner.

Jayde Christeansen got her stick to the ball and caused the defender to score an own goal to make it 2-2.

But Springfields were to go into the break ahead retaking the lead with a reverse stick strike into the bottom left corner of the net.

Lancaster came out fighting in the second half, Katie Benter keeping the opposition at bay with some solid tackles and tracking players around the pitch. And the equaliser came when Nina Swarbrick released the ball to Standeven who calmly took on the defence and keeper to smash the ball into the goal.

Standeven then turned provider for the winner 10 minutes from time.

She crossed for captain Grace Robertson who deflected the ball into the roof of the seal a well-deserved three points.
