Grammar school youngsters third in northern finals

Lancaster Royal Grammar School’s U15 cricket team have finished third in the recent North of England finals.

The youngsters lost out in the semi-finals to Sedbergh before seeing off Woodhouse Grove in the third place play-off at Netherfield on Monday, July 1.

LRGS posted 95 for 7 against Sedbergh with Bashall making 36.

The same player then took two for 18 with the ball but couldn’t prevent Sedbergh running out three wicket winners.

In the play-off for third place, batting first LRGS made 114 for 7, before dismissing Woodhouse Grove for just 81.

The students had qualified for finals day after winning the Lancashire Cup.

The youngsters were crowned county champions after beating Merchant Taylor’s by 62 runs in the final. 
They had earlier narrowly defeated Bolton School by five runs in the semi-final.

Other LRGS cricket teams have enjoyed recent success.

The U14s won through three rounds of their Lancashire Cup in five days.

The will now face off against Blackpool CC in the final.
