Westgate went down to a four-wicket defeat at Shireshead in the Westmorland League on Saturday, writes James Main.
After being put into bat the visitors posted 103-8 from their 45 overs with Andreas Arestidou top scoring with 20.
David Jack took 5-65 for the hosts.
In reply Shireshead finished on 109-6, Jack completing a man of the match display with an unbeaten 48.
The innings included three fours and four sixes.
Peter Wilson was Westgate’s best bowler against his former club, taking 4-30.
Elsewhere, a resolute 34 not out from 120 balls from captain Dave Hannigan meant Westgate’s second team avoided defeat against Shireshead A.
Shires won the toss and elected to bat, posting 121-8.
Adam Murphy top scored with 42 while Westgate’s vice-captain Jacob Vaughan took 4-29.
The hosts had a terrible start in reply and were reduced to 27-6 but a partnership of 29 between Dakshina De Silva (13) and Hannigan gave the score some respectability.
Matthew Hannigan had to help see out the final over with the father and son combination ensuring Westgate took one point as they finished on 78-9.
The first team host Milnthorpe on Saturday in the league and then Holme, again at home, in the Hackney & Leigh Trophy on Sunday. The seconds travel to Coniston on Saturday.
