Dave Chisnall geared up for this week’s World Grand Prix with a run to the quarter-finals of the ninth round of the Players Championship in Dublin on Saturday.

The Morecambe ace crashed out 6-1 in the last eight to Mark Dudbridge at the Citywest Hotel.

He had earlier recorded victories over Mark Frost, Steve West, Peter Hudson and Kevin Painter before coming up against Dudbridge, whose run to the semi-finals was his best result on the PDC ProTour since March 2010.

Saturday’s event was won by Adrian Lewis who came back from 3-0 down to see off Brendan Dolan 6-4 and pick up the £10,000 winners’ cheque.

Chisnall then reached round two of Sunday’s second event of a double-header in Dublin.

He once again beat West in the opening round before a 6-1 defeat to Andrew Gilding, the Norfolk man reaching his first-ever PDC ProTour semi-final on the day.

Raymond Van Barneveld triumphed 6-3 over Peter Wright in the final.

The players now move onto the World Grand Prix.

The event, with a unique format that sees players need to both begin and end each leg by hitting a double, will be held across seven days in Dublin, live on Sky Sports.

Chisnall kicks off against Ian White on Tuesday night at 7pm.
