CARNFORTH earned 15pts from a thrilling victory over Blackpool by six runs at Lodge Quarry.
Opener Ryan Nelson anchored Carnforth’s 153-9 with a superb innings of 80 before he fell to a stunning catch in the deep by Alex Smith in the 48th over.
Blackpool’s South African pro Con De Lange bowled well to take 3-32 as Blackpool recovered from losing opening bowler Richard Gleeson to a back injury after he had bowled just eight balls.
Teenage opening bowler Mike Tidmas bowled a fine second spell to finish with 3-31.
Blackpool slumped to 28-3 in reply before De Lange hit six fours and four sixes, profiting from a missed chance in the field on 29.
With Michael Moore lending valuable support the visitors looked well placed as they reached 91-3.
But the introduction into the attack of Warren Quinn and Dickon Morris changed the game.
Left-armer Quinn bowled De Lange for 55 and off-spinner Morris gave a lesson in pressure bowling, taking 4-15 in his eight overs.
Moore was caught by Quinn off Morris for 30 and though Tidmas hit an unbeaten 20 last man Gleeson, batting with a runner was run out by Gareth Pedder’s sharp fielding in a dramatic finish.
