Carnforth’s fine start to the season came to a shuddering halt at the weekend as Blackburn 3rds got their season up and running with a 25-5 victory.
Blackburn enjoyed early possession and on 15 minutes their centre went through unchallenged for a converted try.
Carnforth responded though when stand off Dale Lowrie made the break before Brad Wheatman and Chris Albiston linked up to see Dan Blenkharn sprint away for the try.
Lowrie and Dan Blenkharn again made breaks before Blackburn were able to break clear for a try – the winger went down the flank but was tackled high leaving referee Mark Manning no option but to signal a penalty try.
Carnforth knew they were in a game but the visitors using their 20 man squad to full extent and keeping legs fresh Carnforth only had the one replacement and with injuries all over the field they had to battle on.
Blackburn crossed again for a try which was shortly followed by a penalty as they took a 15-point lead.
In the last minutes a fourth try was scored to seal a deserved victory for Blackburn.
