Skerton Boxing Club fighters were in action on shows on Friday and Saturday night.

On Friday night Mathew Doey and Steven Douglas boxed on JR Gym’s show at 53 Degrees in Preston.

Doey, 16, boxed a good opponent from Littleborough and for the three rounds he boxed with composure and pressured his opponent throughout, gaining the better shots and outclassing his more experienced foe for a unanimous points victory.

Next into the ring was Steven Douglas who was up against a Blackpool boxer from the Sharpstyle Boxing Gym.

Throughout the three rounds it was clear that Douglas had too much power for his opponent to handle with the Blackpool fighter doing well to survive to the bell when the Skerton boxer had his hand raised.

The win extends Douglas’ record to 4-0.

On Saturday in Manchester Dinny Kelly was boxing in the final of the National Minors Championships against a seasoned warrior from Guildford City Boxing Club who had an age and weight advantage.

Throughout the three rounds Kelly boxed well however and was unlucky to see the decision go against him.

The result means the young Skerton boxer is now ranked number two in the country at his age and weight.
