A below-par first period cost the Heysham Atoms as they fell to defeat at Latchford Albion on Saturday.
After two weeks off at this crucial stage of the season the Atoms travelled to Warrington a little undercooked in terms of battle readiness for the vital final few games.
A lacklustre first 40 minutes was ultimately their undoing.
When they did play rugby it was effective and entertaining but there simply wasn’t enough of it.
The intensity in defence which has been so good this season was badly lacking allowing the Cheshire side to dominate.
The Atoms scored four tries, three of which were converted by Billy Livingstone, through Dan Ginocchio, Al Crookall, Jamie Cottle and an excellent finish from young winger Kia Davis after the handling move of the match.
The only blessing for the Atoms was that rivals Ulverston and Spring View also lost making for a very interesting last few games of the Domino’s Pizza North West Men’s League Division 1 season.
