Larissa wins gold medal at European Championships

Modern pentathlete, Larissa Hannam, headed off to Weiden in Germany with the GB team to compete in the European Triathle Championships.

Placed in the Under-17s age group, 14-year-old Larissa was competing against athletes from Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Russia and Ukraine.

The competition comprised of a pack start followed by shoot (five green lights), swim (50m) and run (600m), which was repeated four times.

After the first round Larissa was in sixth place, coming out of the second shoot she had moved into second and held this place for the next two rounds.

It was during the final swim where Larissa decided it was time to make her move, giving it her all on the final 600m run as she crossed the finish line taking the gold medal.

Two other members of the GB team crossed the line in third and fourth, giving Larissa a team gold medal.

Later on the same day it was time for the mixed relay where the competitors took part in shoot, swim and run twice each.

After Larissa’s two rounds she handed over to teammate Sam in fifth place, an amazing final run from Sam saw the GB pair take the silver medal.
