The hosts will look to keep pace at the top of the British Water Polo League’s Super 5s competition on the penultimate weekend of action at Salt Ayre Sports Centre.

Multi-time national champions Lancaster City are second after four games but are level on four points with leaders Cheltenham in the second stage of the season.

Coach Zak Sly, who will have London Olympians Glen Robinson and Alex Parsonage in his side, said: “We’re pleased with how things have gone.

“To win 10 of our first 11 games was fantastic and the lads have put in a lot of hard work.

“It’s a couple of years since we lost three or four senior players so to bounce back as quickly as we have has been really good.”

Spectators will be seeing the best of British Water Polo up close and personal with Lancaster facing Bristol Central at 4.55pm on Saturday and Scottish side Portobello at 11.20am the following day.

Sly said: “It’s a really big weekend of the season and to have home pool advantage is a real bonus.

“Anybody who comes along will get to see London 2012 players and Commonwealth gold medalists.

“We want to pack the place out.”

The top 13 mens’ teams in Britain will be in action as the top five Super 5 teams are joined by eight Championship 1 outfits.

Action starts at 11am on the Saturday and 9am on the Sunday.

Entry is free throughout the weekend.

Two former Lancaster players, Neil Bowers and Sam Smith, will also be in action representing Team Northumbria.
