Lancaster’s Salt Ayre Cog Set is hoping to cement the legacy of the Tour de France visiting our shores with a special event this weekend.
The cycling club is holding a Go-Ride Tour event on Saturday, July 12, with youngsters welcome to turn up and take part in the entry-level event.
Young riders will have the chance to take part in a time trial and a circuit race, with the best performances winning t-shirts and medals in the colours of the Tour de France jerseys – white, green, yellow and polka dot.
The day will be led by club volunteers and coaches trained by British Cycling and starts on the Salt Ayre Cycle Circuit at 9.30am, running until around 1pm.
The Go-Ride Tour theme has been co-ordinated by British Cycling with the Lancaster event organised by Alexander Reed, a young Cog Set volunteer who is completing his British Cycling Platinum volunteering award.
He said: “It’s such an exciting summer for cycling, with the greatest road race in history coming to the UK.
“We saw from the Olympics that events like this inspire so many young people to get on their bikes and we want to provide an opportunity for them to experience the thrill of cycle sport.”
Any youngster wanting to take part in the day simply needs to turn up with their bike, helmet and the £2 entry fee.
