Lancaster and Morecambe youngsters start track and field season

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club’s juniors have moved from cross county onto summer track and field events.

At the Mid-Lancs presentation evening Georgia Hannam won the individual Under 17 Girls Championship with under 15 Emma Whitaker third.

The under 13 girls team were second with silver medals awarded to Erin Moffatt, Kirsty Hamilton, Lydia Shenton, Eleanor Graham, Eve Harwood, Bethan Twigg, Freya Burgess, Isabelle Woodman, Sasha Oldham, Anna Harrison, Holly Satterley, Kayleigh Canning and Tilly Percy.

The under 13 boys of William Pyle, James Stanley, Kieron Blackburn, Tyler Hannafin, Harry Shaw, Matthew Bunce, Jack Sloman, James McCracken, Jack Garwood, Ben Cadman and Tom Kirkley repeated the feat.

The older juniors finished fourth in the first Youth Development League Track and Field Match at UCLan Arena in Preston.

In the under 17 men’s event Michael Sallis posted a PB in the 800m and threw 18.14m in the discus.

Joseph Twigg produced new best times in both the 800m and the 1,500m with Jamie Hardy posting a PB in the 1,500m steeplechase.

The male athlete of the match award went to 14-year-old Dominic O’Garrow who attempted the increased under 17 height in the 100m hurdles while also posting PBs in the long jump and triple jump.

Nathan Traynor performed well in the 100m, 200m and shot put.

Molly Newton O’Brien was awarded the female athlete of the match.

Elsewhere, Scarlet Dale travelled to Yorkshire to compete in the third round of the English National Fell Running Championships and took first place in the under 16 girls to extended her lead at the top of the table.

She was also selected to represent the North West in the London Mini Marathon 3-mile Junior British Road Championships where athletes competed over the last three miles of the London Marathon course shortly prior to the elite field passing through.

Scarlet finished in 23rd position with an outstanding time of 17:51.
