Lancaster and Morecambe Men’s 1s 6-1 Lindum Men’s 1s

Lancaster and Morecambe welcomed back Nick Davey, Marc Atkinson and Joey Davidson and this was telling in an emphatic six-goal display at the University of Cumbria.

The two squads looked evenly matched until a moment of genius from Rob Cook, who bamboozled the visitors’ defence before attempting a cheeky lob over the advancing goalkeeper.

With the attempt heading towards the goal Lancaster’s Alex Davidson made sure by raising his stick high above his head and smashing the ball into an unguarded goal.

The lead was doubled soon after when Davey also showed individual skill by slotting the ball neatly under the goalkeeper.

Lindum did not give up but the centre back pairing of Iain Burstow and Andrew Crabtree were providing a masterclass in defending, continually frustrating the opposition.

And it was 3-0 before the break when confusion in the goalmouth led to another goal for Lancaster and Morecambe, with Davey claiming the effort.

After half time Lancaster and Morecambe were very much in the ascendency and extended their lead further when Joey Davidson fired in an unstoppable drag flick.

And Alex Davidson concluded a vintage performance by completing his hat-trick with two outstanding goals, one a fine reverse-stick strike.

Lindum earned a late consolation from a successful penalty flick awarded when a strike from a penalty corner was deflected into the face of Burstow with the ball rebounding from his face guard.

In the closing stages Marc Atkinson thought he had scored his first goal for the Lancaster and Morecambe with a fierce strike from the edge of the circle but his effort was ruled out for an infringement.
