Warton skipper Ryan Nelson invited Shireshead to bat first and Phil Oliver hit Graham Crowther’s second ball for six over the cover boundary.

Crowther (7 for 42) soon had his revenge though as he removed Oliver and took the first four wickets as Shireshead slipped to 42 for 4.

Captain Paul Yates (30) steadily rebuilt the innings however as he added 28 with James Rafferty and a further 35 in the company of Dave Jack (39).

Jack gradually upped the tempo as he began to score fluently and was well supported by Steve Yates (22) as Shireshead were bowled out for 157.

The Warton reply began slowly as James Rafferty (1 for 10) removed Stuart Mayor without scoring. Ricky Nelson and Jeff Winder then took the score to 35 but the introduction of young leg-spinner Rowan Upton (3 for 52) then brought life to proceedings as he removed both batsmen to bring together Ryan Nelson (42) and Tom Barnfield in what was likely to be a pivotal partnership.

When Jack (3 for 33) returned to have Ryan Nelson caught off the glove down the legside by Simon Harrison, Warton had slipped to 112 for 6 and Shireshead smelled blood.

Phil Oliver (2 for 8) joined Jack for the final stages and it was Jack who took a sharp caught and bowled in the final over to clinch victory for Shireshead.
