The Atoms kicked off their big day in Wigan with a fine team try, Ewan Hutchinson, Adam Woodend, Ben Keenan and Baillie Leatham setting a platform for Henry Connolly to release the back line of Josh Clarke, Simon Cody, Tom Lawton, Brad Langhorn and Ike Eastwood.

Eastwood was stopped 20 metres out on the fifth tackle and on the last Tony Statter put a high kick out wide which Simon Cody gathered, passed out to Kyle Barton who outpaced the defence to score the first try of the game, converted by Eastwood.

Connolly stepped inside and took several tacklers over the line with him for a great individual try to make the score 10-0.

Saddleworth got their side of the scoreboard moving before the half was out, making it 10-6 at the break. Replacements Ciarran Sutcliffe, Harry Shatford, Aaron Pike and Callum Brodie ensured the Heysham defence stayed strong at the start of the half.

They also made good yards forward as the Atoms extended their lead, Higginson forcing his way over from acting half back, with Eastwood adding the conversion for 16-6.

Saddleworth threw everything they could at the Atoms but the defence stood firm with Henry Higginson adding the final try to cap a memorable day for the club and its stars of the future.
