The Lancaster under 18 hockey squad travelled to Kirkby Lonsdale for the first round of the National Cup at the weekend.

Lancaster gained several short corners in the first half and one of which was injected to Shannon Davey whose powerful strike gave them a 1-0 advantage.

Despite Hannah Chetwynd-Diggle making some superb diving saves Kirkby made the score 1-1 and then went ahead soon after from another short corner.

Emily Bamber-Dowthwaite then drove the ball past Kirkby’s defence though and fired an accurate ball to Esme Kilshaw whose fantastic strike equalised.

In the last 10 minutes of the game Ellie Walton dribbled round Kirkby’s defence before passing the ball to Beth Hay who swept the ball past the goalkeeper giving Lancaster a 3-2 victory.

The Lancaster under 15 side played Longridge in their first game of the season.

Goalkeeper Rachel Kellet was the youngest in the squad at only 11 years old and she made some fantastic saves.

Lancaster won 4-1 with goals from Eve Dodd, Faye Ledward with two and Annie Park.
