Senior comes up just short in bid to qualify for The Open
The former Walker Cup winner held his nerve for a breakthrough first win on the Challenge Tour on Sunday after a four-hole, sudden-death play-off at the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.
The 26-year-old then moved onto final qualifying for The Open at Hillside Golf Club, Southport, on Tuesday where a 72-man field went for three spots in golf’s most iconic event.

Hide AdThe Heysham man was in contention throughout the day as players battled it out over two rounds.
Senior carded rounds of 71 and 72 to finish on one under par but it meant he finished tied for fourth with Australian Scott Arnold, American Jordan Niebrugge and Sweden’s Pelle Edberg finishing two shots better off on three under par to take the three coveted spots on offer.
Elsewhere at Hillside Morecambe amateur Thomas Winn endured a more difficult day, carding rounds of 80 and 84 to finish on 20 over par.
