The former amateur star finished joint fourth in tough conditions in the Challenge Tour event at the Royal Golf Club having led the field at the halfway stage.

Senior posted rounds of 68, 70, 74 and 77 to finish on five over par, four behind winner Max Orrin, winning nearly €10,000 in prize money.

A second round of 70 had put the Heysham man on four under par at the head of the field but Senior was forced to settle for a top-five finish in what was the toughest test of the Challenge Tour year so far.

Orrin, a 21-year-old Englishman, posted a level par 71 in brutal conditions to come from three shots back at the start of the final round to seal a second Challenge Tour win.

The result puts 26-year-old Senior 15th in the order of merit with a long way still to go in the season.

The top 15 golfers come the end of the year will seal a coveted place on the main European Tour in 2016.

Senior will next be in action at the Kärnten Golf Open presented by Mazda in Godersdorf, Austria, starting this Thursday, May 21.
