Gold medals for gymnasts

A local gymnastics troop has scooped a hoard of gold medals at their first invitational gymnastics competition.

Fourteen gymnasts aged between 5 and 15 from Salt Ayre Sports Centre, Lancaster, travelled to Flick-Flak Gymnastics Club in Charnock Richard to compete in their first national event.

The troop competed against 14 other gymnastics clubs from as far away as the East Coast and Crystal Palace, in a range of disciplines.

An impressive total of 45 medals were awarded to the Salt Ayre team with 21 gold.

Salt Ayre Sports Centre offers gymnastics courses for children from pre-school age upwards and currently has over 300 children, both boys and girls, enrolled.

Skills taught within these dynamic and friendly lessons include movement, musicality, gymnastics, exercise games, listening and co-operation.
