'˜Gibi' sails home in first place
Club Commodore John '˜Gibbi' Gibbison led the way home under near perfect conditions when Morecambe Sailing Club took to Morecambe as part of its spring race series on Sunday evening.
Retired Morecambe High School teacher Gibbi steered his Laser Radial past the line just ahead of Morecambe High School student April Whiteley trying out an OK dinghy with Keith Byers in third place and April’s younger brother, Jamie, in fourth.
Just to keep things in the family, April and Jamie’s parents Nick and Jo Whiteley took care of officer of the day and safety boat duties.
Both April and Jamie are members of MSC’s new Youth Sailing Team which is open to youngsters aged 12 to 18 years of age from complete beginners to experienced sailors.
