In his new C&M Motors-built car Murphy qualified second on the grid for the first round of the new season.

Taking his place on the front row for Saturday’s race the teenager battled hard to get his nose in front only to be hit and spun off the track.

Rejoining in 18th, Murphy battled back for an impressive fourth-place finish.

In race two on Sunday, starting from fourth the Galgate man battled up to the final podium position in third but after some tyre problems had to settle for fifth.

The results mean Murphy sits fourth in the championship ahead of the next round at Rockingham on the May bank holiday weekend.
