The Shrimps and Oxford United are the only two clubs in League 2 not to make signings in the January transfer window.

Bentley is keen to freshen up his squad but financial constraints dictate players have to leave the club before any can be brought in.

One player who could depart is Ryan Williams but the midfielder is back at the Globe Arena after spending a few days training with Scottish Premier League side Motherwell last week.

Should funds be freed up Bentley’s top priority remains securing goalkeeper Scott Davies’ return from Fleetwood despite Andreas Arestidou impressing between the sticks in the Shrimps’ 0-0 draw with Tranmere on Saturday.

The Shrimps boss said: “One or two might go out, which has been made public recently with one thing or another, but if they don’t there won’t be space for someone else to come in.

“What we’ve got in the dressing room at the moment is what we’ve got to work with.

“It’s all very well fans saying we should be getting this and we should be getting that and he’s a good player but we haven’t got the finances.

“We cut our cloth accordingly.

“Are the board going to turn round and go there’s 20 or 30 grand to go out and sign a player or two until the end of the season but then run the risk of people not getting paid, going into administration or even worse?

“It’s a well-run club but we’re not blessed with having the finances a lot of clubs have at this level.

“It’s a massive frustration. You’re sat there and you’re watching Sky Sports News and you see clubs signing players.

“But we continue to work hard and explore all avenues to see where we can freshen the squad up in coming weeks.”
